kids

at 9 degrees we cater predominantly for those 16 and over.

Although 9 Degrees endeavours to be an inclusive facility we are first and foremost an adult venue with climbing most suitable for those 5ft tall and above.

While there's undoubtedly many climbs a child can conquer with the required supervision, large groups or those hoping to leave children unattended may be better off exploring more suitable options for entertainment. If you’re looking to take your child rock climbing and you’re unsure whether 9 Degrees is the right fit please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have or recommend an alternative child friendly rock climbing gym in your local area.

Guidelines For Under 18’s at 9 degrees:

  • All persons under 18 years of age must have their waivers signed by a parent or legal guardian before using the facilities at 9 Degrees.

Siblings, parents of friends or other non-legal guardians will not be eligible to sign a waiver for a child. Signed notes, emails or verbal permission will not be accepted.

  • Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Although bouldering does not require an adult to belay, active supervision is required at all times. Supervisors must not let children run, sit or stand on the mats, climb too close to anyone else, jump down from the top of the wall or otherwise act in an unsafe or disruptive manner.

  • climbing shoes must be worn at all times

9 degrees patrons are required to wear climbing shoes while on the wall at all times. For those who don’t own their own, shoes can be hired for $7 or for free on your first visit. As we cater predominantly for customers 16 years and up, we stock hire shoes down to a minimum of size of an adult men’s US 3.5/women’s US 5 or EU 35.

If your child has feet too small for our hire shoes, any guests wishing to use the facility will be required to supply their own. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep our gyms safe and clean.

  • One adult supervisor is necessary per 2 children climbing

A group of 4 children would require 2 adults, for example. This is non-negotiable. Supervision exemptions may be made by staff on a case-by-case basis for competent youth competition climbers.

  • Groups with 5 or more children or those hoping to leave children unattended are better off exploring other options for kids entertainment.
